Participants in the Feminine Mark/Feminist Mark will communally interrogate just what a feminine mark may be and how that might differentiate itself and/or elide with the feminist mark. Materials to examine will include Deep Throat’s cream pie scene, hyena clitori, sartorial stains, the slashing of the Rokeby Venus by suffregette Mary Richardson (1914), the smashing of a chocolate cake into the face of novelist Marguerite Duras by Noel Godin (of “Gloup! Gloup!”), composer Pauline Oliveros’ on the “banana shaped ear”, and excerpts from texts by Adrienne Kennedy, Catherine Clement, Suzan-Lori Parks, Monique Wittig, and Dennis Cooper, amongst other materials introduced by students and organizers. Together, we will lay the groundwork for ARE: Feminine Mark/Feminist Mark. This workshop is co-sponsored by The Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
