Jeonguk Choi

Jeonguk Choi works with time-based media to exaggerate performativity and ambivalence found in his identity. Creating performative videos, performances, and interactive and/or audiovisual installations, he observes and responds to subsequent miscommunication, appropriation, and interpretation that takes place in experiencing his work. Originally from South Korea, Choi holds a BA in Visual Arts and Computer Science from Bowdoin College and is currently pursuing an MFA in Intermedia at UMaine. He has spent the past year assisting with various curatorial projects, working for the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, Rockland, ME and Tina Kim Gallery, New York, NY. He is currently a TA for Creative Coding courses in New Media department. In his free time, you’ll find him singing, playing piano, and occasionally songwriting.
