Northeast Connection Conference to take place at the University of Maine

At approximately 9:24 a.m. on Friday, April 19, a University of Maine graduate student was struck by a university vehicle on Long Road at the University of Maine campus in Orono. The student reports that they are at a local hospital with minor injuries.

Emergency services, including the Orono Fire Department, University Volunteer Ambulance Corps, University of Maine Police Department, Orono Police Department and Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.

The university vehicle involved in the incident was a Chevrolet Express van. It was being operated by a university employee.

Counseling services and support are available for students, faculty or staff who may have been affected. The Counseling Center can be reached at 207-581-1392 and the Dean of Students Office can be reached at 207-581-1406.

The scene has been cleared and Long Road is now accessible. An investigation is being conducted by the University of Maine Police Department with assistance from the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit. On Tuesday, May 23rd and Wednesday, May 24th at 1:00 p.m., the IMRC Center on the UMaine campus will host panel discussions as part of the Northeast Connections Art & Technology Conference. Both presentations will take place at the IMRC Center at the University of Maine, at 1:00 pm, and are free and open to the public.

The Northeast Connection is a consortium of University programs focused on the intersection of art and technology. Current members include the Department of Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology at McGill University, New York University’s program in Music Technology and the UMaine Intermedia MFA program.

Instruments in the Digital Age

Wednesday, May 24th at 1pm

A discussion on the transformation that musical instruments have undergone in the digital age.

Discussions will be led by UMaine Intermedia MFA Professor and new media installation artist, N.B.Aldrich. N.B.A. is professor in the UMaine Intermedia MFA program and is also a new media installation artist who focuses on generative and interactive installation. Joining the discussions will be Rob Hamilton, Marcelo Wanderley, Gustavo Aguilar, Leslie Ross and New Media Professor and Program Coordinator Jon Ippolito.

Hamilton, Assistant Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) is Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Rob Hamilton works in experimental music and video and his work explores the expectations of video gaming.
